Clean West defines clean technology, or cleantech, as IP-driven businesses whose technological or engineering innovations have the potential to displace or avoid carbon emissions. This broad - and often fuzzily defined - category includes agricultural biotechnology, energy efficiency, power storage, transportation, water, materials, waste, air and carbon emissions. For clean energy, see here. The breadth and depth of technological innovation in the clean technology industry is astounding. Advances in materials science, biotechnology, nanotechnology, engineering, design and business models drive entrepreneurial innovation inexorably forward. Without clean technology innovations then clean energy power facilities would be infeasible to build and price uncompetitive with conventional power generation plants. Without clean technology scientific breakthroughs then biofuels would likely not breach price parity with conventional gasoline or diesel. Without clean technology revolution and experimentation in alternative vehicle power propulsion then internal combustion engines would be the only choice. Without clean technology entrepreneurial creativity in everyday topics such as water and recycling then we wold all face a more polluted future. Clean West encounters many clean technology ideas and applauds their intentions and potential. |
